Super tournament turn out for the Amigos Golf Club at beautiful Soule Park Golf Course
Soule Park March 2018
Amigos Golf Club Results at Soule Park Golf Course
Last weeks torrential rains were the finishing touch that was needed for a more beautiful green and luscious looking golf course at Soule Park in Ojai, California. The views of this mountainous course were spectacular. However, the overly watered "rough" were exactly that... rough to find your ball and even rougher to hit your shot out of it. This didn't matter to the A Flight Amigos bunch that consisted of 6 players going head to head. When the battle was all over, newcomer Jorge Tovar shot a nice 3 over 75 follow up by second place finish Jose Ramirez's 2 over 74. First place honors went to the perennial top of the food chain, Doug Heller with an even par 72.
Jorge had a steady round going by being 1 over at the turn and on the back nine he bogeyed #18 to finish 3 over par. Jose shot an amazing front nine going 3 under at the turn unfortunately Jose ran into a little trouble on #14 and took a double bogey. That misfortune took a lot of momentum from his game thus leading to him shooting 5 over on the back nine.
Doug Heller went about his business and shot an even par on the front nine and an even par on the back. Doug's finish was good enough to bag $90 for his efforts and Jose took home $60.
B Flight had another great turn out with 22 players which easily paid top 3 Gross and top 3 net places and 4 $25 greenies.
John Trueba placed third place gross with an 85 score. Tied for first with an identical record of a very nice 80 was Robert Sandoval and Eddie Ramirez. With the dreaded card- off, Eddie took first place honors over Robert. These two fine Amigos golfers are actually A flight players on our home course at Saticoy Regional GC, but playing at a slightly more difficult course here at beautiful Soule Park B flight suited them well, thank you. $85 for 1st place payout, and $75 and $65 for the next two places made for a nice round of good golf play.
B flight Net scores had Joe Puga and rich guy Manny Ayala tied for the top spot with 1 under par scores, however with a card off Joe Puga won the tie breaker with a birdie on the #1 toughest hole on the course. Newcomer Eric Lopez showed up with a nice even net par third place showing on his second tournament with Amigos golf Club. Way to go Eric!
Super Big Net Skin Worth $360 Won By Manny Ayala!
Amigos Golf Club President Johnny Garza and Rich guy Manny Ayala
Some may be confused but that is not Manny's new ball marker pictured. Manny Ayala donated this beautiful wooden plaque bearing our logo to our club today. We will now use this beautiful plaque as a photo prop at all future Amigos Golf Tournament. Manny's good deed must have brought good luck, not only did he win 2nd place net, but he also took home one of the biggest Amigos's "Net Skin" cash payout of all time. Manny won the only skin in the Net Skin's game worth a whopping $360. Amigo Nation says as always "one good turn deserves another!"
Doug Heller Finds the Bottom of the Cup for a Cool 105 Dollars Jackpot
$105 Money Shot winner Doug Heller and coordinator Nacho Corral
Twenty- one Amigos Golf Club members tried to knock down a tricky 50 foot double breaker down hill putt, but only Doug Heller manage to find the bottom of the cup. Nacho Corral, Amigos "Money Shot" coordinator, chose a very tough hole position on the practice putting green for the Amigos to putt from. Amigos Golf Club President Johnny Garza's putt went in and out and nestle an inch from the hole which incidently brought a few ahhhhhs and oooohs from the small gallery witnessing the putting contest. The "Money Shot" putting contest is always put on before every sanctioned Amigos Golf Tournament. Better luck next time Mr. Prez! And a hardy congratulations to Doug for his making the "Money Shot" $105 putt! Tip of the hat to Nacho Corral for doing a wonderful job as the Amigos' "Money Shot" coordinator.
